Mold air quality test

Are you suffering from allergies, such as sneezing, coughing, itchy and watery eyes, or maybe you have asthma? Get a mold air quality test to determine the mold spores present in your house—allergenic, pathogenic, or toxigenic. With this knowledge, you can take the appropriate action to eradicate the problem.

How do you perform a mold air quality test?

5 Microns Inc. utilizes an airflow-calibrated electric pump to capture all the possible present airborne spores in your environment. An air-o-cell cassette is attached to the top of the pump to capture mold spores of different colonies, which will then be examined under a microscope by a lab technician. We provide:

  • A full report will show what mold spores are present.
  • Their levels include a glossary of fungi.
  • Our recommendations.

We don’t perform the remediation as it is a conflict of interest.

How long does a mold air test take?

mold air test takes 5 to 10 minutes per sample collected and about 10-15 minutes to conduct the actual sample testing.

How much does a mold air quality test cost?

The limited mold service call is from $551 (for up to two rooms) and from $725 for a complete mold inspection (checking every room, including the crawl space, attic, as well as the exterior of the home). *Any inspection of a crawl space requires the presence of an individual who will be present directly outside of the crawl space during the entire inspection by the inspector entering the area to provide help in case of an emergency. Each plan includes three samples, an inspection, and a full report. Each additional sample is $70, whether a surface or air sample. The number and type of additional samples you will need will be determined during the inspection, and the inspector will advise you and get your permission before taking more samples. Please note that air samples require an exterior sample for the baseline and at least one inside sample. A baseline is needed because mold spores are not visible and are part of our ecosystem. Still, mold spores enter your building, and a baseline sample is required to compare the interior levels to the exterior.

Our inspector will visually inspect using a moisture reader, an infrared camera, and a relative humidity meter. Our inspector will look for conditions conducive to mold, such as water damage and intrusion, among other causes of mold growth.

The final cost will be determined based on your location from our office. You will be billed by email after performing our service. The information will be available in 5-7 business days(not including weekends). The invoice will have payment options for you to choose from. Our office will forward your report after we’ve received payment.

*NOTE: When shopping for mold testing and inspection services, please be aware of the free services that mold remediation contractors typically offer. Mold remediation contractors are mainly trained to remove mold from your building; their inspection focuses on finding and remediating visually apparent mold growth. Still, they are not trained to perform comprehensive mold and air quality inspections, which is essential to ascertain the source of the problem and overall conditions. The mold inspection and testing should be performed by a professional (IEP) indoor environment professional who will produce a report that will aid and guide the remediation team in resolving the problem and preventing the issue from returning. Mold remediation contractors and mold inspectors (aka indoor environment professionals) perform entirely different disciplines but often work together on fungal growth problems to achieve the desired results for the client.

What is a TO15 air quality test?

If you are experiencing a suspicious smell that you can’t quite figure out, suffer dizziness, feel lethargic, or have a burning sensation in your nasal passage, you may be suffering from VOCs—Volatile Organic Compounds in your home. These compounds are the gassing off of various chemicals found on furniture and building materials in your home. Getting a TO15 test will help determine which VOCs are elevated so you can address the problem and breathe healthier air.

How do you perform a TO15 air quality test?

Our team will install a small 2″ x 1″ canister in a specific room in your home with an attached calibrator. The system is completely silent. One canister covers 1,500sf. Our canister will collect a sample of air in the room and will be returned to the laboratory for analysis by a certified technician. The timing for the results is a standard of 2 weeks. Please contact us for other options.

How much is a TO15 air quality test?

The service cost to perform the TO15 test is from $1559 for a one to two-week turnaround time. A library search option lets the technician go deeper into the analysis to find any additional potential VOCs at an additional $189. There is a $135 non-refundable deposit per canister, which is applied to your balance. The final cost will be determined based on your location from our office.

Asbestos air quality test

How do you perform an asbestos air quality test?

An air-calibrated mechanical diaphragm pump is used with an attached plastic tube at the pump and an air cassette at the other end of the line to capture fibers. The lab technician will be looking for fiber concentrations that hopefully fall below the EPA’s recommended limit of 0.1f/cc. The filter inside the cassette will be examined under PCM—Polarized Light Microscopy—by a lab technician. The standard timing for the results is 3-5 business days, but there is an option for the next or same business day. We don’t perform the abatement work as it is a conflict of interest.

How much is an asbestos air quality test?

The asbestos PCM is a quantitative test, and the service call is from $604, including three samples, a survey, and a complete report. Each additional sample is $76 per sample. An asbestos TEM is a qualitative test, and the service call is from $756, including three samples and $208 for each additional sample. The final cost will be determined based on your location from our office. You will be billed by email once the data is ready. The information will be available in two business days. There will be payment options on the invoice for you to choose from. Our office will forward your report after we’ve received payment. We do not perform the abatement as it is a conflict of interest, but we can point you in the right direction if needed. Radon air quality test

What is radon?

Radon is a naturally occurring radioactive gas that can cause lung cancer. Radon gas is inert, colorless, and odorless. Radon is naturally in the atmosphere in trace amounts. Outdoors, radon disperses rapidly and, generally, is not a health issue. Most radon exposure occurs inside homes, schools, and workplaces. Radon gas becomes trapped indoors after it enters buildings through cracks and other holes in the foundation. Indoor radon can be controlled and managed with proven, cost-effective techniques.

Breathing radon over time increases your risk of lung cancer. Radon is the second leading cause of lung cancer in the United States. The EPA estimates that about 21,000 people die yearly from radon-related lung cancer. Only smoking causes more lung cancer deaths.

How do you perform a radon air quality test?

You’ll need an area where the kit can be set up, with no one going in and out of that room during the sampling, to prevent outside air from entering and tampering with the equipment. Refrain from using a ventilation system that can bring in outside air, and the room needs to be closed off from outside air for at least 8-12 hours before the test. The room should also be the lowest living space in your home; this can be inside a closet in your basement, for example.
