Home mold testing
Mold in building materials can sometimes be seen or smelled. Using a Bio-Pump Plus, our inspectors will conduct an indoor and outdoor test for comparison. The inspector will also collect a tape lift sample for visible mold and perform a moisture level test. Our inspector takes photographs, documents each sample he receives, and completes a chain of custody form. The inspector will draw a map indicating where the samples were collected and return the samples with the chain of custody form to the lab for evaluation.
Results take anywhere from 24 hours to five business days to deliver to you, and it takes anywhere from half an hour to one hour to complete the mold inspection of a home.
Mold air testing
5 Microns Inc. offers mold air testing using a mechanical or electric pump with an attached mold trap. Air testing using the above devices allows us to gather more information about the types and species of mold spores and their levels.

The limited mold service call is $459 (for up to two rooms) and $659 for a complete mold inspection (checking every room, including the crawl space, attic, as well as the exterior of the home). Each plan includes three samples, an inspection, and a full report. Each additional sample is $70, whether a surface or air sample. The number and type of additional samples you will need will be determined during the inspection, and the inspector will advise you and get your permission before taking more samples. Please note that air samples require an exterior sample for the baseline and at least one inside. A baseline is needed because mold spores are not visible and are part of our ecosystem. Still, mold spores enter your building, and a baseline sample is required to compare the interior levels to the exterior.
Our inspector will visually inspect using a moisture reader, an infrared camera, and a relative humidity meter. Our inspector will look for conditions conducive to mold, such as water damage and intrusion, amongst other causes of mold growth.
If your address is over 20 miles from our office, there may be a small one-way trip fee of $0.65/mile. You will be billed by email once the data is ready. The information will be available in 5-7 business days(not including weekends). The invoice will have payment options for you to choose from. Timing for mold testing
The standard turnaround time for results is 5-7 business days (not including Saturday and Sunday) if delivered to the lab by 2:00 pm; otherwise, the clock starts the next day. We offer next-day service.

If you miss the chain of custody form, your piece (s) will not be accepted and processed. Drop-offs MUST have the COC form inside your package but not in the sample bag. It is essential to closely follow these directions so our asbestos testing lab can promptly process your sample(s).
