Do air quality monitors detect mold?

One of your children has an autoimmune disorder, and for this reason, you want to make sure the air quality in your home is as clean as possible. Your child’s condition is especially vulnerable to mold spores. So you decide to get an air quality monitor to detect mold levels. Several air monitors on the market can monitor mold spore levels; you have to select the one that suits your budget and has the features you want. Even if you use an air monitor, you should get a professional mold air test once or twice per year to get more data and accuracy. Professional mold testing will use unique electrical pumps calibrated to capture all the different mold spores species present in your indoor environment. The expert will also conduct an inspection and provide valuable advice and locate potential problems. Before using an air quality monitor to detect mold, you should get a professional mold air quality test and inspection.

How to test air quality

Besides buying an air quality monitor, you can test air quality by hiring an air quality inspector; they will most likely use mechanical pumps to test air quality for mold, asbestos, lead, and formaldehyde. Some equipment used to test air quality include canisters, which are commonly used to test VOCs. However, many more methods are used to test air quality; the ones mentioned above are the most common.

If you want to test for mold, you can buy a kit that usually comes with a Petri Dish. You can rent out an electric pump that uses an air cassette to trap mold spores, and you can also get a mechanical pump to get an air sample to test for mold. Many mold testing labs will rent these machines free of charge as long as you send them the samples for testing at their lab.
