How do we collect samples?
Detection of asbestos in building materials requires collecting and examining small samples from 1 cubic inch to 3 square inches depending on the material sampled. The EPA recommends the number of samples collected per building material.
Asbestos survey work performed by 5 Microns Inc. meets regulatory inspection requirements enforced by federal, state, and local agencies, including Asbestos Hazard Emergency Response Act (AHERA), WAC 296-62-077 (WISHA) and 40 CFR Part 61 (NESHAP) and 29 CFR Part 1926.1101 (OSHA)
Our inspectors’ bags, photograph, document each sample he collects, and complete’ a chain of custody form. The inspector will draw a map indicating where the samples were collected; and will return the samples with the chain of custody form to the lab for evaluation.
Results take anywhere from 24 hours to three business days to deliver to you, and it takes anywhere from half an hour to three hours to complete an asbestos inspection of a home, the latter being a demolition inspection.

Residential Asbestos Home Inspection:
The asbestos service call is from $440, including four samples, a survey, and a complete report. Each additional sample is $37 per sample layer; each layer is considered a separate sample. *Please note: Additional sample layers can not be determined until the material is placed under a microscope in the lab. For example, drywall has several layers: the sheetrock, surface texture, the tape, and the mud, totaling three samples; popcorn ceiling texture is usually just one sample layer. The information will be available in five business days. The final cost will be determined based on your location from our office. There will be payment options on the invoice for you to choose from. *Note: The collection of asbestos-containing material is regulated by the EPA, which dictates the number of samples we collect.
We also offer drop-off and mail-in asbestos testing. The cost is $37 per sample layer. *Note that each layer is considered a sample if classified as ACM–asbestos-containing material. Please carefully follow the instructions below to drop off or mail a sample.
