Even after drying out the mold in your bathroom by running a large fan and keeping the windows open, there is still the possibility that this mold spore presents a health risk. That is because even if the mold is inactive, any amount of moisture can reactivate the spores. So, what is the best way to avoid this risk?
How to test for mold
First, get a mold test and inspection of your bathroom, or hire an expert to perform this task if you don’t feel comfortable doing this yourself. You can always look at online videos for help. But the key is knowing which mold species are present and the level. The information will help to remediate the problem once and for all. Many times, all you need to do is use a good dehumidifier, clean the mold with a solution, and keep the room well ventilated to control the mold problem. But sometimes, it requires more work to get rid of the issue. You may have a plumbing leak or leaky roof. Cut a piece of the material with mold, making sure to wear some latex gloves before doing this, and place the material in a Ziploc® bag, label it and write the location where you took the sample. Send the piece to a mold testing lab for analysis under PCM—Phase Contrast Microscopy. You should know the results within a few days.
Once you get the results back from the mold testing lab, ask a lab technician to go over the finding with you, then look for a remediation company to do the work of removing the mold if necessary.
Mold testing cost
Mold testing cost is between $50 and $60 per sample if you get the pieces yourself, but you can add $300 for the assistance of a professional inspector. Remediation is beyond the scope of this writing, so you will need to speak to a mold remediation company for pricing.
